Joyce Gerber is new to me.
I'm loving The Canna Mom podcast. It's a refreshing show to listen to. First, Joyce the host, and Dave the producer, are a great team and it's always easy to keep coming back to listen when a show has that welcome you into their home feeling - The Canna Mom pod is that.
I fell in love with the show after a few listens specifically because Joyce persistently talks about how there's room for any woman who wants to be part of the cannabis community and she invites us to bring our talents to the table. The fact that she emphasizes how important it is for women to lead in the cannabis world is more important than you might recognize, legal cannabis is still a fairly new industry and is wide open for women in every aspect.
I'm 60. I don't know how old Joyce is but we're in the same generation. Like Joyce, I have been reluctant to "do the pot" in a public way. But a couple of years ago I bought my first legal weed and was impressed with a few things:
- The stuff is strong
- It takes practice to figure out what fits
- It's safe
- I love that there is no hangover
- It has been a terrific exploration of strains and doses
Maybe you already know these things. But for me, it's been a great learning curve. Btw, Joyce was reluctant in the way that so many of us were taught that cannabis is a gateway drug, or it's going to make you a lazy loser, or it will kill brain cells. None of those are true.
In the episode I'm linking you to, Joyce talks about the route she took to get into cannabis as she's interviewed by her producer. Joyce notes some of the difficulties she faced as an older person, a woman, a mother; making income. There is no after kids. There is no going back to work. Mothers work. Wherever that may be, moms work.
Joyce went to law school to advocate for people and her work continues in what I'd suggest is an even larger way in the cannabis field. I'm very happy she's in. It’s fantastic to hear other women’s stories.
There are so many women's stories we'll never hear. I left an abusive marriage, finished my degree and dove into work as a means to keep a home, keep my kids on track and support us. I did not have or intend to make a career during that time. Instead I leveraged opportunities.
I hope Joyce's podcast lives for decades. I hope the companies she spotlights thrive and become generational wealth for the families of women in cannabis. I hope she brings the everyday woman’s story to her podcast, we need to hear all of them. Successes, failures, struggles. All of them.
